Welcome visitors

The VSQ Office welcomes and invites you to familiarize yourself with the lodging facilities and services offered by the Arecibo Observatory (AO). The AO operates VSQ rooms that are available for visiting telescope users, official Arecibo Observatory visitors, visiting scientists as well as the general public.

Reservations have to be made through this website.

Check-in 3:00 pm. Upon arrival on site, AO Security representative will validate your reservation, and escort you to your room. You will use the numeric code, that was provided by email at the moment of the reservation, to unlock the key lockbox and pickup your room key.

Check-out 11:00 am. If needed, please contact the Luz Lopez ( llopez@naic.edu or vsqreservations@naic.edu ) at ext. 221, to request a late checkout. Keys are to be returned to the key lockbox. Make sure the key lockbox is properly close with the key inside. If you have any difficulty, please contact our housekeeping personnel at extension 279 or 397 or our security guards using extension 222. They will be able to assist you.

Payment for lodging expenses should be made at the time of reservation using this booking engine. All our bookable units would need prior approval before completing the reservation payment.

The AO does not provide airport transportation. However, if transportation is needed, we can assist in arranging taxi service with an external resource. Fee will vary. Request for this service should be included in the reservation notes, included in the comments section.

The Visiting Scientist Quarters (VSQ) will be made-up prior to visitors check-in and will be provided with adequate towels, wash cloths, soap, and other necessities. Housekeeping is provided on a daily basis. If any requests are to be made, you may contact our housekeeping personnel at extension 279 or 397. Please report any situations or maintenance problems to AO Security at extension 222 or 221.

Additional guidance for traveling and hosting during COVID-19
It is not recommended to travel if you’ve recently been exposed to or have symptoms of COVID-19
To protect the health and safety of our community, it is our policy that hosts (and all people who may be present at the facility before or during a stay) should were a face mask and maintain social distancing of 6 feets. Wash your hands regularly
Be sure to wash your hands often, especially if you’re in contact with people outside your reservation and are touching surfaces and utensils in a shared space or a common area. Hand sanitizer is provided in all units.

What to do if you test positive for COVID-19 during or after your stay
If you recently tested positive for COVID-19 or have started to feel any COVID-19 symptoms, and have recently stayed in our facilities or interacted with guests as a host, contact us immediately. You should also inform relevant local authorities as well as your doctor.

Do guests get a refund of the cleaning fee?
We do not charge cleaning fees.

What if a guest needs to cancel because of an emergency?
We may be able to issue a refund if a guest has to cancel because of an emergency. Certain restrictions apply.

How long does it take to get a refund?
We send refunds immediately upon cancellation and they usually show up within 3-5 days, but sometimes it takes as long as 15 days before they reflect on the original payment method. It will depend on your country or bank.
